Coming down from my Angry Dome

I'm going to violate my normal don't-get-political-rule to clear up some misinformation I see floating around the internet.

By this point, if you haven't been hiding under a rock, then you probably saw the big reveal of Caitlyn Jenner. I think its most appropriate to first congratulate her before I go any further. So congratulations, Cate!  You officially are hotter than most of the women in Hollywood right now. So that's nice.

I had to retreat to the angry dome today when I saw a continuous string of memes and re-posted pictures talking about "real bravery" and how Caitlyn Jenner was nothing but a fraud and an abomination. I assume these posts came from the kids whose parents fed them lead-paint-frosted-flakes, but I digress. One of the most offensive memes involved a soldier and identified him as a "real hero" with "real bravery". This is where I have to disagree. Now, before anyone starts sending me angry letters...I'm a former army wife with a veteran husband and fully support the troops. My issues is, to compare someone's internal batter to that of a soldier's line of duty, hardly seems fair. See, soldiers are brave because they CHOOSE a job that very few people are willing to do because they know it could result in their life. That is brave. Caitlyn Jenner fought a daily internal battle, by no choice of her own, one in which caused her to live a lie for a very long time. To break out of that lie, in such a public way when her former identity had been such a public one, is also very brave. I can't even imagine what the argument against that idea is. However, if you are one of those people that disagrees GTFO now because this blog is not for you.

Caitlyn developed a platform for LGBTQ people to come out and be free without fear of persecution. Look at all the people and celebrities that rejoiced in her freedom today! That is truly something beautiful to behold. For those that feel trapped, like they are living a lie or living in fear of the ramifications, they finally have someone to look up to and say with assurance that "it gets better". I'm not going to listen to or hear any of the "God made her a man" bullshit because well, science. If you don't know what gender dysphoia is, look it up. It is a diagnosable medical/psychological condition. There is plenty of research to back up that gender dysphoria, which usually leads to someone identifying as transgender, has a biological explanation of someone receiving the opposite hormone (either estrogen/testosterone) in the second "hormone wash" in utero. Therefore, they receive one set of external parts but the opposite type of hormones in the brain. However, I should clarify that I don't think the science even matters in this case. What matters is someone made their life better by being honest with themselves. Since it serves as no detriment to anyone else, we should rejoice in Caitlyn's new found happiness. For fucks sake, let's start loving our fellow humans!

And I've digressed again. In summation: Rock on Caitlyn. The internet is here for you to rip Drake Bell a new a-hole if you need it.
